5.4 - Time Penalty Conversion System

This page describes the process the Stewards will use to convert time penalties into penalty points.

As per rule 5.2.3, drivers receiving time penalties from the Stewards (without finishing in a points-scoring position) will see these penalties converted into license penalty points. Stewards may also assign penalty points based on collision severity, following the rules outlined in the Penalty Point System. The resulting value is then combined, giving an overall count of penalty points. Time penalty conversions are as follows:

Time Penalty
Penalty Point Conversion

5 second penalty

1 penalty point

10 second penalty

1 penalty point

15 second penalty

2 penalty points

20 second penalty

2 penalty points

25 second penalty

3 penalty points

30 second penalty

3 penalty points

Example: If a driver causes a moderate collision, resulting in the Stewards imposing a 10-second time penalty, and the driver finishes in 11th place, their total penalty point count would be in the range of 3-4 penalty points.

These penalty points will be applied to the driver's overall licence penalty point tally.
